Winery Spotlight: Becker Vineyards

Today’s winery spotlight is directed at Becker Vineyards – a new stop on our route here at 290 Wine Shuttle. With tasting rooms in two Fredericksburg locations, Becker Vineyards is about to celebrate its 30^th anniversary. As the most awarded Texas winery, Becker Vineyards has won almost 300 double gold and gold medals, along with many “Top Texas Winery” awards from distinguished international wine competitions.

They make their wines using 100 percent Texas grapes. Some are grown at their own estate vineyard, while others are purchased from up to 15 local grape growers.

Two Convenient Locations

There are two convenient locations: Becker Vineyards Estate Winery and Main Street Tasting. Each one operates differently from the other.

Estate Winery and Tasting Room

Opened in 1996, the Becker Vineyards Estate Tasting Room features a large main Tasting Room, Pavilion, Verandah, Lavender Haus Reception Hall, and Wine Club Tasting Room (open Wednesday through Sunday). Choose from the following tasting experiences:

General tasting: Sample five Texas wines at the bar, with charcuterie-cheese boards available for purchase. Walk-ins are welcome and reservations are not required.
Seated tasting experience: Sample award-winning Texas wines paired with an assortment of delicacies within an intimate setting.
Small group tour and tasting: In a small group setting, sample six pre-selected samples of Becker Vineyards wine.
Private tour and tasting: Get a private tour of the Estate Winery production area and six wine samples.
Reserve Library tasting: This behind-the-scenes tour of Estate Winery production takes place one Saturday per month at 12 pm. Enjoy a cheese and wine pairing with older wines from the prestigious Reserve Library collection.
Riedel Wine Glass Tasting: Also taking place one Saturday per month, you can learn how to pair your favorite wine with the ideal glass. Sample current and past vintages of Becker Vineyards’ wines, and bring home three Riedel glasses.
Wine Club Annual VIP Tour and Tasting: Book a private walking tour for yourself and up to 10 guests. Enjoy tastings along the way, and a cheese board to snack on after the tour.

Main Street Tasting Room

Located on – you guessed it – Main Street, there are three tasting experiences to choose from:

General Tasting: With walk-ins available seven days a week, you can choose five award-winning wines to sample.
Group Tasting: Enjoy five samples of Becker Vineyards wines in a group setting. These tastings are first come, first served, and reservations are not required.
Wine Club Member Tasting: Enjoy a complimentary tasting of five wines in the Wine Club Member Lounge.

Becker Vineyards Events

Offering a variety of public and private events, Becker Vineyards makes it easy and fun to relax while enjoying their award-winning wines. From live music to luncheons, there’s always something going on here to keep you entertained.

Here are a few highlights of the public events:

Moonlight Madness: A Star Gazing Dinner on the Lawn: Enjoy a galactic evening starting with a wine and cheese reception at 7:30 p.m., followed by an outdoor dinner at 8:15 p.m. and stargazing with a guest astronomer.
Texas Cellos: Enjoy this dynamic ensemble as they perform a blend of classical, jazz, and contemporary music.
Chef’s Table Luncheon: Start with a wine and cheese reception at noon, followed by a sit-down lunch at 12:30pm in the Lavender Haus. Enjoy a multi-course menu by Estate Chef Tyler Anderegg paired with Becker wines.

Becker Vineyards also hosts many private events. The Texas Hill Country setting provides the perfect backdrop for your special event, from birthdays and engagements to anniversaries and rehearsal dinners.

What to Know About Becker Vineyards

Boasting 66 acres of vineyards, Becker plants 11 grape varietals that include Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Sauvignon Blanc, Sangiovese, and Chardonnay. Its winery includes three tank rooms, an underground cellar, and five barrel rooms containing more than 5,500 oak barrels.

From their first harvest in 1995, Becker Vineyards now averages 80,000 cases per year with wine that has been served seven times in the White House, as well as the Texas Governor’s Mansion. Surrounded by fields of wildflowers, peach orchards, and corn fields, the drive to Becker Vineyards is a picturesque one.

The Library opened in 2012, and contains a 26-year collection of private wines. The Lavender Haus is the place to be for wine dinners, festival luncheons, birthday parties, corporate retreats, and group tastings. An 1890s homestead log cabin can be found outside the main tasting room near the windmill and water tank, and the Winery Verandah brings a rustic charm to outdoor tasting experiences.
