This month we’re visiting Texas Heritage Vineyard, one of the many amazing vineyards we feature on our shuttle tours in Fredericksburg. Featuring “Texas Wines Honoring the Past & Celebrating the Future,” this lovely vineyard has it all. From Wine Club memberships and events to tastings of their award-winning vinos, you can’t go wrong with a stop at Texas Heritage Vineyard.
The Story Behind Texas Heritage Vineyard
When you visit Texas Heritage Vineyard, you will quickly witness their mantra in action: “Honoring our past, while celebrating the present.” This family-owned vineyard has grown deep roots in Texas, and they cultivate those roots by growing grapes that thrive here. The resulting wines have won numerous awards, but that’s not what drives this team.
Owners Billy and Susan Johnson have always wanted to cultivate a family-run winery built on a foundation of honoring Texas in a way that would benefit future generations. Established in 2015, the dream of Texas Heritage Vineyard was realized with an enchanting estate vineyard, state-of-the-art winery, and expansive tasting room.
The Johnsons planted the first grapevines in 2015. Today, the vineyard boasts 12.5 acres of varietals, from Alicante Bouschet, Malbec, and Tempranillo, to Souzao, Viognier, and Tannat. In 2017, the winery production facility was built, and now contains more than 400 barrels of wine. It’s also where special Wine Club events are held.
Winemaker Tyler Buddemeyer has developed a unique style as he seamlessly navigates the vineyard-to-bottle progression. Guests and Wine Club members can mingle here to sample award-winning wines while listening to local music and taking part in regular parties and events.
Hit the patio on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons to listen to tunes by talented Texas singer-songwriters while enjoying 100 percent Texas wines. Whether you prefer red, white, or rose, you’re sure to find something you love here.
Wine Tastings and Events
Texas Heritage Vineyard is nestled in the heart of the Texas wine corridor, showcasing award-winning wines that are made at the winery here in Gillespie County. The winery tasting room itself has an impressive tasting bar and spacious seating areas, offset by an outdoor lounge with bistro tables, festive lighting, a fireplace, and three fire pits.
Here are a few accolades and awards Texas Heritage Vineyard has received for their 100 percent Texas Wines:
